Lindy Hop Classes with Hannah MacKenzie-Margulies & Scott Angelius
Try this one cool move which will totally revolutionize your dancing!!! (int) We promise there will be at least one cool move, but more than that, this class will focus on amplifying what we think makes dancing the lindy hop so enjoyable—communication. We’ll go back to basics to get in touch with what makes for a great, connected, creative dance and then add in some flair for both followers and leaders.
Hearing the music through your partner (int-adv) What is it like to REALLY feel the music through your partner? No really, like, only one person can hear the music and they have to communicate what's going on through their movement alone? Not sure? Neither are we (just kidding, we've given it a try and we think it's pretty interesting)! In this class, we'll use the power of technology to go on this journey together, digging deep into what it means to really embody different musical vibes and communicate them to our partner. REQUIREMENTS - Please bring a smartphone and earbuds. Also, please download the Google Meet app before class.
Making choreography your own (int-adv) Bored with your choreography? Never choreographed before and not sure where to start? Not interested in choreography but trying to bring more personality and individuality into your dancing? Join us. We’ll start with a simple sequence and then bring in some compositional games and strategies to jumpstart the creative juices.
Thanks for the Feedback (all levels) Giving and receiving feedback is an art in and of itself and one that doesn’t always get a lot of airtime. In this class we’ll spend some time talking about what makes for helpful feedback and then we’ll practice giving some ourselves. Don’t worry, it’s easier than you think!
Carolina Shag Inspired Lindy Hop (int) Carolina Shag is a smooth, rhythmical beach dance typically danced to early R&B music. Join us to learn some of the fundamentals along with a cool move or two. We’ll also look at ways to incorporate Carolina Shag footwork and aesthetics into our lindy hop.
